Comic #133 : "Do It Yourself"

The problem with Wordpress is that it is so widely used by bloggers and people with personal websites that it suffers from the Window XP syndrome. Because it is so widely used it is in the interest of hackers to target every vulnerability in it because it means there will always be a huge number of unpatched servers out there. It becomes a simple task to build a bot to trawl the Internet, and when it finds a Wordpress site just exploit the known vulnerabilities - if it gets it then it can simply take over the website.
A friend of mine once woke up one day to find his entire website replaced with a porn website. In short - if you are running a corporate or company website do not use a freely distributed Content Management System. You are basically asking for it to be hacked, or at the very least to allow any unscrupulous competitors to let themselves in and look at your inner workings.
