Facebook is full of people from both sides of the political spectrum posting pictures of historical political figures with quotes and attributing them to their point of view. It has a logic fail on many levels - quotes are always needed in context and this context is missing, it also is period specific.

Coming from a country whose political establishment stretches back nearly 1,000 years I find it crazy how the American political debate focuses so much on what the founding fathers would have done.

It's not to diminish their historical significance but the world is constantly evolving and changing and rules have to change with the times. What made sense in America during its frontier period of history does not necessarily make sense as an established, functioning economy. Not only has technology progressed, but so have social attitudes, the day to day environment and our knowledge.

What are the founding father's views on video piracy? Or computer viruses? Or software patents?

Yes, these are important historical figures and it is important that we remember what they achieved, but if we act like their opinion trumps everyone elses then that stops anyone else from ever achieving greatness again.
