Comic #26 : "Supergeek Idol"
Monday 22nd April 2013
After last Friday's 'lazy' comic I have returned with an 8 frame epic, and a new character. Going forwards I will not be updating every day because I don't have the time to be drawing the comics and doing a job at the same time as publishing 7 comics a week. So I will move to a Monday, Wednesday, Friday release schedule... like xkcd, ahem.... and see how that works out.
This comic was the first one I focus group tested. And by that I mean I showed to a friend who said it wasn't immediately obvious whether the comic was arguing against sexism towards women or in favour of it. I originally had a much more confident face on Dave in the final frame, which I changed to a more natural one. I hadn't been entirely comfortable with the last frame but it had been late at night and I had been struggling to get it exactly how I wanted.
While I am not a female tech journalist, I obviously do read articles written by them on the subject of attitudes towards women in the technology industry, so I imagine a lot of them do have to put up with the issue raised in this comic.
If you are a female tech journalist, feel free to get in touch and let me know if I'm right or wrong. [irony]....Or if you want to go out for dinner some time... [/irony]
