Comic #69 : "Guilty Pleasure"
Monday 29th July 2013
I am surprised that Apple haven't released a product with a pen and active digitiser yet. While the iPhone was a truimph of success based on the fact that it didn't need a stylus for its routine operation, for precision interaction and digital art a stylus is king.
The Surface Pro is a brilliant device, and even Samsung's Android based S-pen products (one of which I use to draw this comic) enable artistry that cannot be done on Apple devices.
That's not to say that some very talented people are not capable of drawing amazing things on the iPad - but the fact they are handicapped by the input limitations of their equipment means they could either achieve better results still, or achieve the same results much faster.
Apple used to be the technology company of choice for creatives. If they fail to introduce a machine for artists to draw on it's possible they will start to lose some of that market.
I know you can get graphics tablets for the Mac, but being able to draw directly onto the screen is much more advantageous, and compact nature of the devices like the Galaxy Note and Surface Pro products makes the experience even more natural, and easier to get to grips with. A philosophy Apple used to specialise in.
