Internet User Triggers Global Conflict by changing his Nick-name

25th December 2002

An internet user in southern England has triggered a major international incident by changing his ICQ nickname.

The user, a young man from East Anglia, had used the same username of "The Merciless" for nearly four years. However, yesterday, for no apparent reason he changed his username to "newTORYboy" for no apparent reason - The impact was catastrophic.

The governments in four countries collapsed within hours; three of these incidents were due to conflicts over the religious meaning for the change, the fourth was simply because the facist dictator was growing tired of absolute power and it gave him a convenient excuse to revert to democracy.

Trading on the New York stock exchange ceased, as many traders paused to update their ICQ database and the Australian air traffic got redirected to India when their GPS system systems crashed due to excessive internet traffic.

The user has yet to be identified beyond his internet identity however it is likely that once revealed he will become the target for assassination as extremists from the former nation "Crapatonia" are not pleased with its new name: "Neidachittanow"
