Tory Backbenchers: “IDS too unpopular to be ‘Worst Briton’” - May 11th 2003
Tory Backbenchers are again calling for their leader Iain Duncan-Smith to step down as leader following Tony Blair winning the title of “Worst Briton”
Mr Blair received the award after Channel 4 viewers voted on who they considered to be the worst person in Britain today, beating celebrities like Jordan, sportsmen like David Beckham and murderers like Mira Hindley.
Iain Duncan Smith on the other hand came 99th in the list of 100 people. This has outraged Tory MPs who believe this to be a catastrophic failure on the behalf of Mr Duncan Smith to make himself popular.
“Any legendary modern Tory MP is always despised. Just look at Margaret Thatcher – she’s now a retired old lady and she still came in a number 3.”
