John Kerry to Replace Colin Powell, beating Condoleezza Rice, as Secretary of State

15th December 2004

President Bush has shocked critics by appointing John Kerry, his rival in the Presidential race, as the replacement for Colin Powell, the former Secretary of State. The Democrat has beaten Republican favourites, which included national security adviser Condoleezza Rice.

Mr Bush justified his decision by explaining that the reason the nation had been bitterly divided during the election was because most people believed that whilst Mr Bush’s position of national security was better, most agreed that John Kerry had a better policy on domestic issues, such as health care and the economy.

“To be honest,” floating voter Chuck Hankman told us, “Whilst I did appreciate that John Kerry’s policies on domestic issues was better than President Bush’s he didn’t make me feel safe. Now that Colin Powell has stepped down it is a perfect chance to get the benefits of both candidates.”

With many Americans feeling cheated in the 2004 elections with both major parties fielding poor candidates it is widely believed an opportunity to make full of advantage of the few qualities each man possessed:

“Whilst individually President Bush and Senator Kelly were poor choices perhaps collectively they can provide an adequate Presidency.”
