David Beckham News Attracts A Lot Of Hits

2nd June 2004

Webmasters across the globe have been stunned at the amount of traffic a David Beckham news story will bring their site. It appears that simply by placing the name ‘David Beckham’ in the headline results in a giant surge of traffic, in some cases crippling servers and overloading content management systems.

The phenomenon was first noticed during the speculation in 2003 as to whether David Beckham would move to Real Madrid or not. However, even the traffic generated by that paled into comparison to the traffic generated by the alleged affairs.

The result has been that news reporters across the globe are desperate to get their hands on a David Beckham story in order to increase the size of their audience. Many webmasters are aware the exercise is ultimately pointless, as their fabricated story will undoubtedly have little basis in fact and with the word’s “David Beckham” removed from their story will probably be of little interest to the majority of their audience but many are so disappointed in the lull following the real David Beckham news they feel they have been forced to resort to such desperate measures.

However, many webmasters are struggling to come up with fresh ideas. As a result many news reporters have been rerunning old stories, but slightly changing the facts. The most common example can be seen in the reports of David Beckham leaving Real Madrid. The will he or won’t he speculation is almost identical to that raised last year as to whether he was going to join the team.

Other critics have pointed out that this news story is of a very similar nature to the BRITNEY SPEARS NAKED story ran by Random Perspective last July, when it used a popular search query with no real results in an attempt to get a whole load of hits from search engine traffic.
