ITV has been heavily criticised by both the Authorities and the Public for its appalling coverage of 2002’s Formula 1 season.
It seems that most viewers tuned in for a 2 hour commercial viewing session only to find that their viewing was occasionally interrupted by brief periods of Formula 1 coverage.
“It’s an outrage.” A viewer told us, “I tuned in every fortnight to watch the various car and men’s fragrances adverts only to have to put up with a couple of minutes of Formula 1 every fifteen minutes or so. This severely hampered my enjoyment of the commercials as well as making it difficult to follow.”
He added: “Perhaps ITV should consider making a period dedicated to Formula 1 and not interrupt the commercials with it.”
The director of ITV commented: “This may have annoyed advert fans and Formula 1 fans alike but as most people will agree: the commercial breaks were by far and away the most entertaining part of the 2002 Formula 1 season.”
