It has been revealed that 2002 marked a sharp increase in suicides. However the reason for this increase has been traced back to an unusual source: British Gas’s Television Advertising Campaign.
The statistics are overwhelming:
An expert in the field said: “We’ve always joked at home about how awful the British Gas adverts are but we never realised there were actually serious implications. I tend to change the channel as soon they come on however I have never watched one all the way through so don’t know how it would have affected me if I had not switched over.”
His advice to people was simple “If you don’t have a TV with a remote control then get one. It is vital that you are able to switch over to a different channel should the advert come on. If you switch over to a channel that is also showing the advert turn your TV to standby. Two short doses of the advert should not cause any lasting damage but I cannot guarantee how three bursts may affect you.”
